SUMMARY:Greater Gardiner River Festival
DESCRIPTION:In a day-long celebration on Gardiner’s Historic Water Street and beautiful Waterfront Park\, Gardiner Main Street\, Gardiner Rotary\, Greater Gardiner Boys and Girls Club\, and Johnson Hall present live music and entertainment on two stages\, a craft fair\, and activities for all ages on\, near\, and in the Kennebec River. The event is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the area.\nThe event kicks off of the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual summer celebration of our riverfront communities\, affectionately known as the “Whatever” Family Festival. The Greater Gardiner River Festival\, brought to you by US Cellular of Gardiner\, takes place on Saturday\, June 20th. Activities run from 9am until 10pm.\nFestival organizers have continued to expand creative offerings ranging from trying a stand up paddleboard to chainsaw sculpture demonstrations and free boat rides on the River. Event-goers can plan on spending part or all of their day in Gardiner. Historic Water Street in Gardiner will be transformed into a pedestrian mall with artists\, crafters\, and specialty food vendors exhibiting their products from 10am-4pm. Throughout the day\, there will be entertainment and childrens’ activities on Water Street\, and in Gardiner’s Waterfront Park.\nNew this year\, Gardiner Main Street and Spin-off Studios have revived the storied “Whatever Race” and brought it onto land. Rather than floating downriver from Augusta to Gardiner\, as was the tradition in the 70’s and 80’s\, folks will be invited to create human-powered moving sculptures that will parade through Historic Downtown Gardiner and through the Waterfront Park.\n“Late June is the perfect time to spend a day on the beautiful Kennebec River” says Gardiner Main Street’s director\, Patrick Wright. “If you’ve heard about some of the recent changes in Downtown Gardiner\, but haven’t had the chance to visit yet\, this is a great opportunity to see what we have to offer.” \nFor more information about the Greater Gardiner River Festival or The Whatever Land Race\, including a full list of events\, visit www.gardinermainstreet.org.

SUMMARY:Gardiner Spring Tonic
DESCRIPTION:Gardiner Spring Tonic\nDate/Time: Thursday\, April 9th 4:30 – 7:00 PM\nLocation: Johnson Hall and downtown (Water Street) businesses\, Gardiner\nGardiner is set to shake off the long tough winter with a dose of Spring Tonic. From the A-1 Diner to Zardus Spa\, week-long promotions to put spring in your step will culminate with special events on April 9th. Modeled on art walks\, Spring Tonic is a wellness walk that celebrates National Public Health Week’s community day with Gardiner’s special flair. The event showcases many resources in and around Gardiner that contribute to wellness and community well-being with demonstrations\, information and special opportunities on Thursday April 9th\, at Johnson Hall and throughout downtown.\nGardiner is a national model for how a community comes together to create healthy living. Last summer\, a film crew from the US Centers for Disease Control and prevention arrived to film Gardiner’s Healthy Maine Streets programs in action. The video will make its Maine premiere on April 9 at Johnson Hall 6 PM as part of the Spring Tonic celebration.\nSpring tonic offers will bubble up all week. Gardiner’s eateries will highlight healthy menu and especially healthy beverage specials (several restaurants are promoting their own “spring tonics”). Other special events on the spring tonic menu including fitness demonstrations\, a movie on local agriculture\, classes on using natural ingredients to create healthful alternatives to sweetened sodas\, and another on making teas and tinctures\, as well as a class on how to tap your creativity. Themed retail specials range from seeds to athletic clothing.\nThe main Gardiner Spring Tonic event is a wellness fair featuring people who practice in or serve Gardiner. Visit downtown Gardiner to see demonstrations\, exhibits and information around the downtown and on stage and on exhibit at Johnson Hall from 4:30 to 7pm. We’ll be posting sneak peeks of what will be on tap as the event approaches. Demos include dance\, martial arts\, Zumba and hula-hooping. Therapists will show and explain massage\, reiki\, hypnotherapy\, chiropractic and other treatments. Learn where to get good food\, where to be active\, and how to connect with peers for support in making lifestyle changes. Celebrate the other things that keep us well—love\, healthy surroundings\, and laughter.\nWe’ll be adding events and specials all month. For more information\, and to find out about the specials being offered\, check out our website and Facebook event page @ http://www.gardinermainstreet.org/events/spring-tonic/ \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/713423298766160/ \nIf you’d like to be an exhibitor\, volunteer\, or be part of the action\, contact Melissa Lindley @ info@gardinermainstreet.org
