WHAT WE LOOK FOR
We are always on the lookout for interesting, high-quality photos to complement the feature stories in our publications. In general, we look for images that capture people of any age in adventurous settings in a way that engages the viewer, stimulates emotion and motivates them to experience it for themselves. Make people say “I want to TRY THAT or GO THERE!” Due to the regional aspect of our publications, photos should be taken in Maine or New Hampshire, from the coast to the mountains.
You don’t have to be a professional photographer. Newer smart phones produce high quality images that will most likely be suitable for printing. If you include plenty of background around your subject, rather than zooming in tight, the image will be suitable for a wider range of applications throughout the magazine — particularly covers. Looking through some of our past publications (here) will give you a good idea of what works best. Relevant subject matter is as follows:
THE MAINE BREWGUIDE
Craft breweries or distilleries (scenic and otherwise)
People enjoying craft beers/beverages on Mountain tops, trails, boats, Ski-Mountains, chair lifts etc. Basically, people who take their craft beer with them on adventures. Aprés anything outdoors!
Food or drinks made with craft brews or spirits
Interesting bars or tasting rooms
Cool signage
THE ACTIVITIES GUIDE OF MAINE
Outdoor fun or adventure of all kinds. People having outrageous fun. Beautiful scenics of the various regions of Maine. Anything that has to do with your love of people, animals, family, and the outdoors, for example:
Camping
Town festivals or events
Boating
Biking
Surfing
Paddleboarding
Hiking/backpacking
Obstacle courses
Ballooning
Ropes courses/ziplines
Polar dips
Wildlife
…and anything else you discover or try.
RaceME
Foot or bike racing events
Obstacle course competitions
Runners or cyclists in scenic environments (with lots of background)
Fitness and nutrition-related photos
HOW TO SUBMIT
There are several ways to submit:
1) email a link to your gallery of photos
2) send 2-3 low resolution images to: subscribe@activitymaine.com
3) go to the Maine Brewguide Facebook page or the Activity Maine Facebook page and post up to three photos
4) tag @MaineBrewGuide or @ActivityMaine from your own page.
Please include information about each shot; particularly where it was taken, name of event if applicable, and/or anything else you want to include. We will respond!
If one or more of your photos are selected, you will be compensated as follows:
$25 if one of your photos is selected for print
$20 per photo for multiple selections
$100 if your photo is chosen for small cover inset
$250 if your photo is chosen for the front cover
You will be contacted prior to publishing to verify photo credit and address for payment.
